The country is divided into five regions: the Eastern, Central, Western, Mid Western and Far Western. Tourists entering Nepal by air will start their journey at Kathmandu in the Central region, before taking shorter flights, bus trips or chartered jeeps to the more remote regions and the starts of many popular trekking routes.  For those undertaking volunteer work with Mission in Church you will have the opportunity to leave the standard tourist areas and immerse yourself in untouched local villages that rarely see tourists.

Religions practiced
Nepal is known as the Hindu kingdom, however both Hinduism and Buddhism are practiced and form the central religion, with a small Christian population. Geographically the religion practiced changes form majority Hindu in the south to Buddhism in the high northern regions approaching Tibet. It is in these places where the streams of prayer flags so often associated with the Himalayas adorn roof tops and high passes.

Fees, Permits and Visas
To enter Nepal you will have to hold a tourist visa, available for various lengths of time but capped at 90 days per year. This can be arranged prior to leaving your country or purchased at the Kathmandu airport. For most areas this visa will suffice, however those wishing to visit conservation areas and trek will need to acquire the relevant entry permit and TIMS card. More information can be found at the department of immigration and TIMS websites, nepalimmigration.gov.np  and http://www.timsnepal.com/ .
Staying Connected
Wifi is increasingly available and Nepal  has a growing mobile network with 3g coverage in most populated areas. Sim cards and credit can be purchased at many small stores, the most common being Ncell. This is simple to arrange with a photo copy of your passport and extra passport photograph, however if planning on visiting a more remote area speak with us with regards your phone plan as some offer better coverage.

We welcome you to our beautiful country, and hope that your time here will be an experience to remember. For more information contact us.
