Mission in Nepal is a nonprofit Christian organization founded in 2005 by David Prasain. Our central office is an orphanage and church in Kathmandu, with 3 village churches in affiliation. We are striving to grow, to reach more people in need, and to plant more churches across Nepal.
Within the structure of Hindu society, widows, orphans, and low caste peoples are terribly neglected. No government assistance is given to those in need, and many women and children end up on the street. As Christians, we see it as our privilege to give aid to these people groups, extending to them, not only physical help, but also the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
No. You can purchase a tourist Visa upon arrival at a relatively low cost. A 30 day Visa is only $50.
No. You can get around just fine with English, and our staff and children in Kathmandu speak English. If you want to do missions work outside of Katmandu or to visit our village churches, you will be accompanied by David Prasain, the director, who is an effective translator.
There are several different ministries that money will fund: Our orphanage in Kathmandu, assisting impoverished families in our community and sending their children to school, aiding widows, supporting affiliated village churches outside of Kathmandu, and paying for future pastors to attend Bible college and then supporting them in church planting. There are several options for donating money on our website, including the ability to sponsor a child with a monthly donation.
Yes. Though Nepal is a developing country, Hindu and Buddhism are very peaceful religions, and that is reflected in all of Nepali society.
Right now Nepal stands at about a 2% Christian population, with 80% Hindu and 10% Buddhist. There are still many unreached peoples and villages throughout Nepal. This is a country ready for revival.
Organizations such as ours receive no government assistance whatsoever. We are also not affiliated with a Western denomination, so we rely entirely on volunteers and donations to fund our ministry.
